New Doors Open Up YOSC to All

Yate Town Council is pleased to announce the installation of new automatic DDA-compliant doors at Yate Outdoor Sports Complex (YOSC), enhancing accessibility for all visitors to the site.

This upgrade has been made possible thanks to funding from South Gloucestershire Council through Section 106 (S106) developer contributions. The funding was allocated to support local infrastructure and community improvements and has enabled Yate Town Council to deliver this important accessibility enhancement.

The new automatic doors at the main entrance will significantly improve access for people with mobility challenges, wheelchair users, older residents, and parents with pushchairs — ensuring a more inclusive and welcoming experience for all.

Councillor John Ford said:
“Automatic doors at the entrance to the clubhouse at Yate Outdoor Sports Complex have been installed by Yate Town Council to facilitate easy access for wheel chair users. A spokesperson for Yate Town Council stated ‘a long overdue improvement to this fantastic facility, one of the many since Yate Town Council took control from South Gloucestershire Council 10 yeas ago”.

To mark the installation, a photo was taken featuring Councillors Alan Monaghan, John Ford, Karl Tomasin, Wendy Tomasin, and Margaret Marshall, along with YOSC Site Manager Andy Lathall. Also pictured is Toby, a regular wheelchair user of the facility.

YOSC continues to serve as a hub for local sport, events, and community activity. The Council remains committed to investing in inclusive infrastructure to meet the needs of its growing and diverse population.
