Supporting the Alzheimer’s Society

Yate Town Council are supporting the Alzheimer’s Society’s call to Cure The Care System in connection with Dementia Action Week. Councillor Sandra Emms: As a member of Yate Town Council Ageing Better Health and Wellbeing subcommittee, and a volunteer for the Alzheimer’s Society, I wanted to organise an activity for Dementia Action Week that would highlight the issues that many people in Yate face who are living with dementia in the community. In order for people to continue to participate in community life and remain independent for as long as possible, we must all work together to make Yate a Dementia Friendly Community. That includes the cafes and shops in Yate Shopping Centre signing up to our free dementia awareness training sessions on zoom. You should begin to see ‘Working to become Dementia Friendly’ stickers in the windows of participating shops and cafes in Yate Shopping Centre. This will give people who are living with dementia in the community confidence to continue to do their own shopping for as long as possible, and enjoy social interactions with the reassurance that there are people around who understand their needs.
