Yate Town Council was proud to recently welcome a delegation from its twin town of Bad Salzdetfurth, Germany, which marked the 40th anniversary of the twinning partnership between the two towns.
The visit included a guided tour around Yate, offering guests a chance to see how the town has developed over the years. Highlights included Kingsgate Park, Yate Outdoor Sports Complex, the Armadillo Youth Café and Venue & Yate Heritage Centre, plus a visit to see how the Brinsham Play Area refurbishment is progressing – demonstrating the ongoing investment of the Town Council in the town’s facilities.
On 31st July 2025, a joint meeting took place at Poole Court. Both Yate Town Council and the representatives of Bad Salzdetfurth gave presentations which included details of developments and projects each council was looking forward to starting in the coming months, as well as reflections on memorable moments from the past four decades. Councillor Aziz Chowdhry, Mayor and Chair of Yate Town Council, and Björn Gryschka, Mayor of Bad Salzdetfurth, signed a special certificate to mark the 40th anniversary. A display of photographs, gifts and mementos shared between the two towns served as a poignant reminder of the lasting bond forged over the years.
Councillor Aziz Chowdhry said:
“It was a privilege to welcome our friends from Bad Salzdetfurth to Yate for this special occasion. For forty years, our two towns have shared not just a formal link, but a genuine friendship that has brought people together across generations. This anniversary is a testament to the value of international connections, and we look forward to continuing our partnership for many more years to come.”
