2024 Grant recipient – Green Community Travel

On Thursday 23rd January 2025, Deputy Mayor of Yate, Councillor Aziz Chowdhry, along with Councillors Alan Monaghan and Chris Willmore, had the privilege of visiting Green Community Travel, a recipient of a Yate Town Council 2024 grant.

The visit provided the councillors with an opportunity to witness firsthand how the grant money is used and to meet the people who benefit from the organisation’s initiatives.

Green Community Travel is a charitable non profit organisation that provides safe, affordable and accessible travel for individuals and groups who are unable to use public transport and would otherwise have no other way of getting around.

The grant money awarded to Green Community Travel will be used to purchase solar-powered reversing cameras for the minibus fleet. These cameras will ensure that drivers can safely manoeuvre the vehicles, protecting both the drivers and the passengers. This investment in safety technology demonstrates the council’s commitment to the well-being of its residents and reinforces the importance of community-driven initiatives.

Jenny Bright, Green Community Travel Manager, commented: โ€œ It was lovely to meet Deputy Mayor Councillor Aziz Chowdhry and Councillors Alan Monaghan and Chris Willmore at our office, the weather wasnโ€™t on our side but we were able to show the councillors our electric vehicle. We had a brilliant chat about our services and what we do for Yate, weโ€™re really grateful to the Town Council for their continued support and always value the opportunity to catch up and discuss what is needed in Yateโ€.

Green Community Travel would not be possible without the volunteers who drive or accompany passengers on their buses, deal with telephone calls and paperwork in the office and help us with our fundraising.  If you have a few hours to spare each week, why not join them in making a real difference to people’s lives?
