Yate Ageing Better is an initiative set up by Yate Town Council to encourage 50+ to lead an active, healthy and happy lifestyle. Working with local groups, we want to inspire and empower locals to have a voice within the community. The Yate Ageing Better project will enable us to continually review and monitor local provisions of older people’s activities, to ensure we are supporting local people to age in a way that is empowering, respectful and most importantly meeting needs.
If you’re thinking of making new friends, learning a new skill or hobby, or maybe rekindling old favourites – join us at Yate Shopping Centre on Wednesday 17th July 2024, 11am till 2pm, where you’ll find us ageing better with help from our wonderful community groups in sport, music, health, arts, culture, heritage, DIY and much more – alongside a vibrant program of music performances, singing, games, free classes, and a festival favourite cream tea and ploughman’s lunch at the Pop Inn Cafe!

Armadillo Relaxed Cinema
On Monday 11th December 2023, Yate Town Council opened new accessible services, for people with dementia and neurodiverse characteristics. Relaxed Cinema at Armadillo Youth Café, is a FREE event for customers with additional needs such as people living with dementia, autism, or other neurodivergent people, along with their personal assistants, friends, or family.
Customers are welcome to move around the cinema, to exit and enter the cinema as they please, to talk and make noise, to make use of our separate quiet space, and our team will be available to support customers with any questions or concerns. Performances will be audio described and captioned, lights will be on and low, and sound will be reduced. The Armadillo is an accessible building with lift access and blue badge parking nearby.
