At the Annual Town Council Meeting held on 13th May 2025, Councillor Aziz Chowdhry was elected as the new Chair and Mayor of Yate and Councillor Alan Monaghan was elected as Vice-Chair and Deputy Mayor, each bringing a wealth of experience and dedication to their new roles.
Councillor Chowdhry, a long-standing resident of Yate for over 40 years, has been an active figure within the community where, along with his wife, they have raised their family. A prominent local businessman and restaurateur, Councillor Chowdhry has dedicated over 12 years’ service as a local councillor.
Councillor Monaghan has been a councillor for 27 years and has extensive knowledge of and dedication to the Yate community, which has led to him being appointed as Deputy Mayor for the third time during his service as a Town Councillor.
On his appointment, Councillor Chowdhry said he was honoured to take on the role of Chair and Mayor, with Councillor Monaghan remarking on Aziz’s gentle wisdom and inspirational leadership.
As they step into their new roles, both Aziz and Alan are looking forward to being in attendance for the full calendar of events planned for the community in the coming months. They warmly invite residents to join them at local events such as Yate Rocks! In the park (21st & 22nd June 2025) at Kingsgate Park as well as the Yate Ageing Better Festival (16th July 2025) at Yate Shopping Centre.
