Yate Town Council, in partnership with organisations from across the community, is pleased to announce the launch of Warm Welcome – a new initiative designed to offer warm and welcoming places for people to drop-in and use throughout the colder, winter months. Completely free of charge, the service aims to support those in the community who are adversely impacted by the cost-of-living increases – in particular, rising energy costs.

The Town Council has made some of its venues available for this and has also produced a guide to signpost people to places in Yate and Sodbury taking part in the Warm Welcome.  The guide is available at www.yatetowncouncil.gov.uk

Yate Town Cllr Cheryl Kirby said: “Warm Welcome is a great example of community service providers and local organisations working hand in hand with the Town Council to support the people of Yate and surrounding parishes in a practical way this winter. There is a superb range of free activities, venues, and facilities in Yate on offer in the Warm Welcome Guide, to ensure that everyone in the community can benefit from community spaces, as we head into what could be, a difficult period for many.  We have a great range of venues opening their doors to people over the winter and all of them will be offering a warm, inviting space to relax and unwind. In many cases there will also be free hot drinks, and perhaps a biscuit as well!”

Yate Town Council’s Community Projects Team have been working with the community to identify possible venues across Yate and the surrounding parishes, that could offer facilities and activities to the Warm Welcome. If you are a community group or business that has a space or activity you can offer to the public, free of charge or, if you can offer funding or resources such as refreshments, games, books, newspapers and magazines, please contact the Town Council.

Warm Welcome is available from 3 October 2022 and runs until 31 March 2023.

Warm Welcome has been made possible through generous donations and volunteer support, from Community Champions at Morrisons Yate and Waitrose Chipping Sodbury, and community partners at The Oasis at CSBC, and Grace Church.
