To mark this sad milestone, on Saturday 22nd February Yate Town Council in a collaboration with South Gloucestershire Council held a procession from Yate Shopping Centre to St Mary’s Church, where a film was played reminding everyone of the losses and sacrifices the people of Ukraine have made.

Traditional dancers and singers performed, and a display showed the devastation the country has suffered in the last three years as well as there being an area to light candles and for quiet reflection. There was a very special and emotional moment when guests sang the Ukrainian national anthem together.

Councillor Aziz Chowdhry, Deputy Mayor of Yate, attended the event and made a short speech. Councillor Chowdhry said โI am honoured to have attended this event to mark this sad milestone. This event was an opportunity to reflect on the last three years and show our solidarity with those from Ukraine and to offer our continued support.โ

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the commemoration event and honoured the memory of those who fallen and thought of all those who are currently defending the freedom in Ukraine!
